Hamas Calls for Arab Unity Against Trump's Gaza Plans

Hamas has issued a powerful statement urging the Arab world to unite against what they describe as a perilous plan by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Gaza. Hazem Qasem, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Islamist group, has called for an emergency Arab summit to establish a front against the pressures emanating from Washington. He emphasized that the neighboring nations should stand firm against the idea of displacing Palestinians from their homeland, a sentiment echoed by various Palestinian factions.

In remarks reported by the Palestinian newspaper Filastin, Qasem stated that Trump’s suggestion of the U.S. controlling the Gaza Strip signifies a blatant intention to occupy the area. "We do not need any country to govern the Gaza Strip, and we do not accept replacing one occupation with another," he insisted.

However, Qasem’s call for unity is not limited to a single summit; he is also demanding action from international organizations to provide support to Palestinian causes. Mahmoud Mardawi, a senior official within Hamas, aligns with this stance, advocating for a multidimensional political and diplomatic strategy to address the evolving crisis. His approach promotes the strengthening of Palestinian national unity, suggesting that a unified front is crucial for developing a comprehensive strategy to mitigate the threats faced by Gaza and the broader Palestinian territories.

Trump's controversial plan has recently attracted widespread criticism both within the Palestinian territories and internationally. This plan reportedly involves the U.S. assuming control over Gaza once a ceasefire is established, alongside proposals to resettle Palestinians in third countries. This has raised alarm bells among Palestinian officials and supporters who view these measures as a direct attack on Palestinian rights.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has signaled readiness to facilitate the voluntary relocation of the Palestinian population from Gaza, which has only fueled criticisms denouncing what Mardawi calls a 'racist policy' aimed at eliminating the Palestinian cause. He asserts that such actions reflect relentless colonization efforts endorsed by Israeli authorities.

Hamas, designated a terrorist organization by Israel and other states, is now advocating for intensified forms of resistance across both Gaza and the West Bank. This call for greater resistance emerges amid a backdrop of uncertainty and tension, as the stakes around the Gaza Strip's future grow ever higher. With various Palestinian leaders joining the chorus against Trump’s plans, the focus now lies on mobilizing both regional and international support to resist what they view as encroachments on their sovereignty and existence.
