Important Updates for Spain's 2025 Income Tax Filing Deadline
The annual appointment with the tax authority is just around the corner. Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 2, the deadline for filing income tax returns begins, and Spaniards must take into account some updates that have been included for the 2025 tax year. The filing deadline ends on April 30.
In this regard, the tax authority has added a significant improvement concerning the payment methods for all those whose declarations result in a tax owed. The Ministry has decided to expand the traditional payment methods that until now allowed citizens to fulfill the payment of the personal income tax corresponding to their annual income.
In addition to electronic payment, direct debit, and payment document, credit card payments or payments through Bizum have been added. Furthermore, taxpayers will also have the option to file their declaration over the phone starting next May 6, as long as they book an appointment starting April 29. As always, it will be possible to file in person at the Tax Agency offices.
Unemployed individuals will have to file their income tax return. However, among all these updates, the most noteworthy is the requirement for unemployed individuals. Unlike previous years, for the first time, they will have to file an income tax return whether they reach the minimum threshold or not. Until this year, unemployed individuals were not required to file if they did not exceed the threshold of 22,000 euros per year or 15,000 with multiple payers.
Indeed, in this last aspect, there is also an update: the income threshold for two or more payers increases from 1,500 to 2,500 euros. This is a good piece of news for all of them as it will allow them to widen their economic margin.
