Indra Appoints Ángel Simón as New Non-Executive President Amid Leadership Change
In a significant shift for Indra, the board of directors has appointed Ángel Simón, the former CEO of CriteriaCaixa, as the new non-executive president, replacing Ángel Escribano. This decision, announced on Thursday, follows a favorable report from the nomination, remuneration, and corporate governance committee and aligns with recommendations from the State Society of Industrial Participations (SEPI), the company's largest shareholder, owning 28% of capital.
Current CEO José Vicente de los Mozos remains in his role as the top executive of the company, fully assuming all executive powers. Ángel Simón, born in Manresa in 1957, brings a wealth of experience to this role, having held prominent positions throughout his career. He served as CEO of Criteria Caixa from January 2024 to April 2025 and has a background as president of the Aguas de Barcelona group (Agbar) and vice president of Veolia. Additionally, he has experience as deputy general director and executive vice president of the Suez group, among other notable roles.
Ángel Escribano, the outgoing executive president, recently tendered his resignation during an extraordinary board meeting. In a letter to his colleagues, Escribano cited the recent challenges faced by the company as contributing factors to his decision. He expressed concern that his continued presence might jeopardize Indra's objectives, which he believes are crucial for the company's future and the sector as a whole.
True to his values of responsibility and loyalty, Escribano emphasized that he did not want his ongoing tenure to interfere with the stability of the organization, its employees, and the confidence of its investors. By prioritizing the interests of Indra over personal considerations, he made the difficult but necessary choice to resign as director and executive president. This leadership transition marks a pivotal moment as Indra navigates its future direction under new governance.
