Intense Russian Drone Assault on Ukraine: Kyiv Under Fire

Overnight on October 6, Russian forces launched a significant aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying 87 drones and four missiles, with the capital Kyiv and various other cities being primary targets, according to Ukrainian officials. In response, Ukraine's air defense systems successfully intercepted a remarkable 56 of the drones and two of the missiles, as reported by the country's air force via Telegram.

Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, detailed that the attack was coordinated in multiple waves, with drones approaching the city from different directions.

The air raid alert in Kyiv and surrounding regions lasted for over five hours, creating a state of heightened anxiety among inhabitants. In addition to the capital, the southern Black Sea port city of Odesa was not spared; local authorities reported multiple blasts due to the strikes.

Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties resulting from the overnight drone assaults. However, in a separate incident within the last 24 hours, Oleksandr Prokudin, the governor of Kherson, stated that one civilian had been killed and 15 others injured due to Russian attacks on the southern region.

The continuous air strikes underscore the ongoing volatility in the region as Ukraine remains steadfast in its defense against Russia’s relentless military actions.
