Internal Affairs Investigation Launched Against Madrid Police Officer for Removal of Political Banner

The Internal Affairs Unit of the Madrid Municipal Police has opened an investigation into the officer who removed a banner from the political party Más Madrid during the recent electoral campaign. Sources from the Safety and Emergencies department confirmed to Europa Press that the inquiry was initiated following the officer taking down the banner that displayed the number of deaths in residences during the pandemic. The investigation will now proceed, which involves calling witnesses to testify and gathering evidence that could lead to a possible sanction against the officer.

Officials from the department explain that this action was taken proactively by municipal agents, and from there, an official inquiry was launched. Anyone affected by the complaint was given the means to submit their allegations accordingly. The inquiry will follow its normal course, as with any other case handled by the city council.

Rita Maestre, spokesperson for Más Madrid, has demanded an apology from the Security Delegate, Inma Sanz, for accusing her of fabricating the claims made by the leader of the opposition, who stated that the officer had invented an article from the ordinance to justify the banner's removal. "He invented an article to intimidate," Maestre insisted during a press conference on Monday. She emphasized that the officer acted with a sense of impunity, reflecting the oppressive tactics of the 'patriotic police' that the left has suffered from historically. "This will not happen again. The deputy mayor needs to apologize to me for calling me anti-system and saying I had lied. She should apologize to the people of Madrid, take responsibility, conclude the investigation, and impose appropriate sanctions for such reprehensible conduct," Maestre demanded.

The investigated officer reportedly acted as a police officer in service of the People's Party (PP), Maestre continued, while highlighting the staggering 7,291 deaths in residences and noting that it has been 1,500 days since the so-called 'Protocols of Shame' were enacted without any scrutiny or accountability for those deaths. "We have not received any explanation, apology, or acknowledgment of responsibility for these undignified losses. This is happening just one week after we learned about the distressing calls families made to residences, knowing that dozens were dying without medication or medical care. They were fully aware and did nothing. We will continue to repeat this until those responsible for this moral indignity take accountability," she said.
