Investigation Launched Against Former Deputy Íñigo Errejón Over Allegations of Sexual Assault

The head of the Court of Instruction number 47 of Madrid has officially taken on the case involving former deputy and parliamentary spokesperson for Sumar, Íñigo Errejón, who faces allegations of sexual assault against actress Elisa Mouliaá. This development follows the confirmation that Errejón no longer possesses special legal status after he resigned from his deputy position last Friday.

Judge Adolfo Carretero, who has received the complaint, is set to initiate a criminal investigation. The first step entails hearing the statement from the complainant, Mouliaá, who reported that Errejón sexually assaulted her at least three times in one night back in September 2021. This statement will be critical in determining the next steps in the legal process.

Once Mouliaá’s testimony is taken, the judge will summon Errejón to testify regarding the allegations. Legal sources indicate that had Errejón retained his deputy status, the case would have been transferred to the Supreme Court, thus highlighting the significance of his resignation in facilitating this investigation.

The political landscape surrounding the case has been impacted; Más Madrid, the political party Errejón is associated with, acknowledged the situation and its implications. It has been reported that party spokesperson Loreto Arenillas expressed the party's responsibility in the matter, emphasizing the need for clarity and transparency.

In a further twist, former Big Brother contestant Aída Nízar has filed an additional complaint against Errejón. This new allegation, submitted to the police in Marbella, references an incident from May 2015 at the Auditorium of the Complutense University of Madrid. Nízar claims that during an event where she was present as a journalist, Errejón kissed her and spanked her on the buttocks.

As the investigation unfolds, it raises significant questions about the cultural and political implications of such allegations in Spain. The outcomes of these investigative proceedings may not only affect the individuals involved but could also resonate across the political and entertainment landscapes, prompting discourse on accountability and the treatment of sexual assault allegations in public domains.

The court's actions mark a pivotal moment in the ongoing conversation surrounding consent, power dynamics, and the accountability of public figures in cases of sexual misconduct.
