Investigation Launched Against Socialist Prosecutor Juan Luis Cepa for Alleged Sexual Assault

The Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León is currently investigating Juan Luis Cepa, a socialist prosecutor, who has been accused of allegedly committing sexual assault against a minor. Following the accusations, Cepa stepped down from all positions within the PSOE and vacated his seat in the regional Parliament on Monday. In a statement, the PSOE of Castilla y León confirmed that Cepa had resigned from the Cortes and relinquished all his organizational roles, citing personal reasons for his decision.

The investigation into Cepa has been ongoing for a month and began when he was reported to the Court of Ciudad Rodrigo in Salamanca. Due to his role as a regional prosecutor, the case was handed over to the TSJCyL, which is now poised to return it to the Court of First Instance following the official confirmation of his resignation from parliament. This step is critical as it will remove his parliamentary immunity, allowing the investigation to proceed unhindered.

Cepa has been a member of the PSOE since 1999, where he has held various significant positions, including serving as the general secretary in Ciudad Rodrigo from 2003 to 2011. He has also been the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development within the Autonomous Executive of Castilla y León, and has been a councilor for the PSOE in Aldea del Obispo since 1994. He has served as a prosecutor in the Cortes of Castilla y León since 2011.

As part of the ongoing legal process, Cepa has been summoned to testify as an investigated individual. The Civil and Criminal Chamber of the TSJCyL has classified the investigation as secret while proceedings are underway, and they have requested the Cortes to verify his status as a parliamentarian. Once these proceedings are complete, the secrecy of the case will be lifted, and the court has already indicated that Cepa will be called in for questioning as an investigated person, although that appearance has yet to occur.
