Investigation Underway Following Tragic Murder of 11-Year-Old Mateo in Mocejón
The Civil Guard is intensifying its search for the assailant responsible for the murder of 11-year-old Mateo, who tragically lost his life after being attacked with a sharp object while playing football at the municipal field Ángel Tardío in Mocejón, Toledo. The incident occurred on a Sunday morning, raising alarms within the local community and prompting swift action from law enforcement.
According to sources involved in the investigation, which were reported by EFE on Monday, the operation to locate the perpetrator involves specialized units including the Organic Unit of Judicial Police, Laboratory, and Investigation Units from Illescas, as well as the Information Group from the Toledo Command. The Civil Guard is pursuing various lines of inquiry related to the case; however, they have ruled out any connection to a jihadist act carried out by a lone actor.
The Investigating Court number 3 of Toledo has designated the case as secret, limiting the amount of information that can be publicly disclosed as inquiries continue.
In response to this devastating event, the Mocejón City Council has declared three days of official mourning. The local community is coming together to honor Mateo's memory and support his family during this painful time. Additionally, the Toledo Provincial Council has scheduled a minute of silence, which is set to take place on Monday at 12:00 PM at the door of the Provincial Palace in Toledo, to commemorate not just Mateo, but also a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly shot dead by her mother's partner in Otero, Toledo, the day before.
This tragic series of events has left the community in shock, highlighting the urgent need for support and interventions to ensure the safety of children and families. As investigations continue, the hope remains that justice will be served for Mateo and the other victims affected by recent violence.
