Israeli Airstrike Targets Hamas Military Chief in Gaza City
The Israeli military announced on Friday that it has executed an airstrike in Gaza City aimed at Izz alDin alHaddad, the commander of Hamas's military wing. The announcement came amid ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hamas, with no immediate confirmation from the Hamas leadership regarding the strike.
Under the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yisrael Katz, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated the strike targeting alHaddad, whom Israeli officials describe as a significant threat. According to the Israeli Ministry of Defence, alHaddad has been one of the key figures behind the October 7th massacre, during which numerous Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers were killed or taken hostage.
The Ministry’s statement accused alHaddad of orchestrating terror attacks and holding hostages in brutal conditions. Furthermore, it claimed that he disregarded international calls, including agreements proposed by former US President Donald Trump, aimed at disarming Hamas and demilitarizing the Gaza Strip.
The ongoing violence in the region has raised concerns about the humanitarian implications for the population in Gaza, where many remain trapped amidst the conflict. As the situation develops, both sides appear to be bracing for further escalations, with the civilian toll continuing to rise in the midst of this protracted conflict.
