Israeli Airstrikes Target Houthi Objectives in Yemen Amid Ongoing Gaza Conflict

In the night between Sunday and Monday, the Israeli army launched airstrikes on various regions of Yemen, focusing on Houthi-related objectives. The Houthis, a Shiite armed political group that maintains control over significant portions of Yemen, are backed by Iran. Since the start of the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, Israel has intensified its operations, targeting the Houthis in response to ongoing hostilities from both sides. The Houthis have retaliated by attacking numerous vessels navigating the Red Sea, claiming these actions serve as countermeasures to the Israeli bombings in Gaza. The recent Israeli airstrikes concentrated on three vital ports: Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif, along with the Ras Kanatib power plant. Another notable target was the Galaxy Leader, a cargo ship commandeered by the Houthis in November 2023, which had the entire crew on board and was not released until January 2025. According to the Israeli military, all four targeted facilities were allegedly utilized for the transfer of weapons and orchestration of attacks against Israel and maritime traffic in the Red Sea. Currently, there are no reported casualties resulting from these bombings. Prior to the strikes, the Israeli army had issued evacuation orders to civilians in the vicinity of the targeted areas, emphasizing the importance of minimizing civilian harm amid the escalating conflict.
