Italian Jewish Communities Express Support Amid Rising Tensions in Lebanon

On Friday, Noemi Di Segni, the President of the Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI), conveyed a message of solidarity and concern regarding the escalating situation in southern Lebanon following recent attacks on UNIFIL bases by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). In a heartfelt letter addressed to Premier Giorgia Meloni, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, Di Segni emphasized the grave tensions prevailing in the region and the complexity of the conflict impacting all parties involved.

Di Segni articulated awareness of the critical nature of the ongoing events and noted that these incidents are being meticulously investigated by the relevant authorities. "We are experiencing hours of grave tension for what happened with the attacks of the Israeli army against UNIFIL outposts in a situation on the ground that is extremely complex and dangerous for everybody," she wrote in her letter.

Expressing a unified voice, Di Segni reaffirmed the Jewish community's support for the Italian mission and all UNIFIL soldiers engaged in the conflict zone. "With the spirit of service, we hope for their safety," she stated, underscoring the community's gratitude toward the Italian government for its commitment to maintaining security amid challenging circumstances.

Di Segni’s letter also conveyed a recognition of the efforts made by security forces and stressed the importance of remaining alert to the evolving situation that necessitates ongoing attention from all involved parties. She extended her absolute closeness to the Italian mission and shared the collective concern among Italians regarding the uncertain conditions surrounding the investigation of these incidents.
