Italian Maestro Riccardo Chailly Hospitalized During La Scala Performance
Italian conductor Riccardo Chailly fell ill Wednesday night while conducting "A Lady Macbeth of the District of Macesk" at La Scala. He was swiftly taken to the Monzino Cardiology Center in Milan, Italy's financial capital. According to his wife, his blood pressure levels were stable on Thursday morning.
The 72-year-old Milan-born maestro was performing when the show was interrupted and subsequently called off halfway through the performance. His wife revealed that Chailly will undergo a change in his medication later on Thursday.
The opera, which opened La Scala's season, received a magnificent reception, garnering 11 minutes of applause from the audience, showcasing the deep appreciation for Chailly's artistry and the production itself.
