Italy Gears Up for Paris Peace Summit on Ukraine Conflict

On Wednesday, a critical meeting convened at Palazzo Chigi, hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, to discuss a forthcoming Summit on Peace and Security in Ukraine, which is set to take place in Paris on Thursday. Central to the discussions was the potential framework for a future ceasefire, with increasing support for the involvement of the United Nations in monitoring and enforcing the ceasefire agreement.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's office, the meeting emphasized the importance of establishing a robust mechanism for the implementation and supervision of the ceasefire. This initiative, which has long been championed by the Italian government, is gaining traction amid ongoing discussions concerning the conflict.

Attendees of the meeting included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, who joined via video link, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, and Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto.

Prime Minister Meloni is set to participate in the Paris summit, which has been convened by French President Emmanuel Macron and includes representatives from the so-called 'coalition of the willing.' This summit provides a platform for key international stakeholders to discuss strategies for peace and security in Ukraine, an area of growing concern amid the ongoing conflict.

As the world watches the developments from the Paris summit, all eyes will be on Italy's role and the proposals that may emerge to foster lasting peace in Ukraine.
