Italy Prepares for Evacuation Efforts Amid Syrian Crisis

Italy is gearing up to organize evacuation operations from Syria as pro-Turkish and anti-Assad Islamist rebels make significant strides towards Damascus. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani made the announcement after engaging in remote discussions with Italian ambassadors stationed in the Middle East, Moscow, and the Holy See on Saturday.

Tajani stated, "The embassy is ready to organize evacuations; we already have requests. The Government is prepared to take necessary actions, both through national and UN initiatives, to ensure the safe exit of citizens." This announcement came at the conclusion of a meeting focused on the ongoing Syrian crisis held at the Farnesina Crisis Unit, where the minister connected with Italian ambassadors from the region.

He further emphasized, "We will ensure that all those who want to leave Syria can do so," although he did not provide specific details regarding the evacuation plans.

As the situation in Syria evolves, Italy's response highlights the international community's continued concern over the safety of citizens amidst the turmoil. This potential evacuation underscores the escalating urgency to address the humanitarian crisis in the region.
