Italy Stands Firm After Israeli Strike on UNIFIL Bases in Lebanon
Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani addressed concerns regarding the safety of Italian soldiers following an Israeli strike on UNIFIL bases located in southern Lebanon. Speaking at a meeting in Turin alongside Regional Governor Alberto Cirio and various economic associations, Tajani firmly stated, "Hands off Italian soldiers; they are not Hezbollah militants." Fortunately, he confirmed that no Italian personnel were harmed during the attacks, assuring that "Italian soldiers are safe, but we don’t want the situation to deteriorate."
Tajani emphasized that approximately 1,200 Italian military personnel deployed with UNIFIL have consistently operated with the utmost respect for engagement rules, working towards the maintenance of peace and ultimately safeguarding Israeli civilians as well. He expressed strong support for the troops, affirming, "They did their duty; we stand by them. We are following what is going on minute by minute."
This incident underscores the fragile security situation in the region and the critical role of international peacekeeping forces amidst ongoing tensions.
