Italy Summons Israeli Ambassador Following Tensions in Jenin
Italy's Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, announced the summoning of the Israeli ambassador to Rome after a concerning incident involving the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). During a visit by international representatives to Jenin in the West Bank, the IDF reportedly fired shots into the air near a refugee camp.
Tajani took to social media platform X to inform the public of his decision. He stated, "I have just instructed the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Israeli Ambassador to Rome to obtain official clarifications on what happened in Jenin." This move signifies Italy's strong stance on the matter and its commitment to understanding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In his statements, Tajani also mentioned that he had conversed with an Italian deputy consul who was part of the diplomatic visit to Jenin, Alessandro Tutino. Thankfully, he reported that the diplomat was not injured during the gunfire event.
