José Luis Ábalos Denies Leaks Amidst Political Turmoil

Former Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos has firmly maintained his innocence concerning the recent leaked messages first reported by El Mundo. In an interview with laSexta, Ábalos admitted that while he did not disclose conversations between him and President Pedro Sánchez from 2021, he did allow for messages from 2023 to be shared with a person he trusts. Crucially, he emphasized that this individual is not Koldo García. Despite his loyalty to Sánchez, Ábalos expressed frustration over enduring 17 months of leaks and rumors, illustrating the toll this has taken on him.

He lamented the wear and tear he has experienced, particularly after being embroiled in an array of stories that have dominated news headlines across various platforms. Ábalos revealed that he possesses hard drives containing personal documents, photographs—including those from his wedding—and materials related to his political career. He had even held discussions with three publishers about writing his memoirs, believing that the documents he has retained represent significant historical context.

Ábalos defended his collection of documents, stating, "That is history of Spain, which is why I kept them. I never imagined that all this nightmare would happen." Amidst the allegations against him regarding the leaks, he expressed indifference, arguing that he has already faced ample slander and humiliation over the months.

In light of the claims against him, Ábalos has announced plans to take legal action, convinced that the UCO (Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard) accessed his hard drives before the Supreme Court’s request from Congress. He expressed his frustration by saying, "I am the fairground monkey, the ball that everyone hits. I have endured many lies about the parador of Teruel, now about Sigüenza, about the catalog—what do they have? Since they can't find anything, they have to keep digging." He categorically denied being the source of the scandal that has gripped headlines recently, reinforcing his stance with fervor.
