José Tomé Resigns Amidst Sexual Harassment Allegations, Defends Innocence

José Tomé formally submitted his resignation on Tuesday during a session of the Diputación de Lugo. In a brief speech, he once again defended his innocence against the sexual harassment allegations that have led to his departure. "He who has done nothing has nothing to fear," he stated shortly before asserting that the complaint filed against him through an internal channel of the PSdeG is false, vowing that he will not stop until he uncovers the truth behind it. "I was neither the only one nor the main target," Tomé added, suggesting that the accusations against him are connected to broader political issues beyond local governance. He urged the media to report with the same professionalism and informational rigor on the events that will occur in the future, predicting that his innocence will ultimately be declared. Tomé lamented that the damage caused has already impacted him on political, personal, social, and family levels, marking a point of no return regarding the events that transpired. In his speech, he highlighted his six and a half years at the helm of the Diputación as exemplary, asserting that his government acted with total transparency. Temporarily, the presidency of the Diputación de Lugo will be held by the current vice president, Efrén Castro of BNG, until a plenary session is conducted to appoint his successor, a decision that is still pending. Despite stepping down from the presidency of the institution, Tomé has not relinquished his seat as demanded by his party, which means that his vote will be crucial in the election of his successor. He also continues to serve as the mayor of Monforte Lugo as an independent. Related Sources: • Source 1 • Source 2
