Judge Clarifies Investigation Parameters in Air Europa Rescue Case

Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, who is overseeing the investigation involving Begoña Gómez, the wife of the Spanish Prime Minister, has officially instructed the Civil Guard's UCO not to compile a report that he had previously requested concerning the rescue of Air Europa. This order follows a ruling from the Provincial Court of Madrid that excluded this line of inquiry from the ongoing case.

In a clarification issued on May 26, and made public by the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) this past Friday, Judge Peinado specified that a notice should be sent to the UCO to retract the previous request for information about Globalia's Air Europa. He maintained, however, the request for a report directed to the General Intervention of the State Administration (IGAE) regarding Innova Next, a company owned by businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, who is also under investigation in this case.

This clarification highlights the aims of the investigation and aims to streamline the focus away from Globalia and Air Europa, which have been seen as peripheral to the central inquiry. Additionally, Judge Peinado rescinded his earlier request for information from the State Industrial Participation Company (SEPI) concerning Air Europa, following the Provincial Court's order dated May 13, which determined that such information fell outside the defined scope of this investigation.

In a related development, charges against Joaquín Goyache, the rector of Complutense University of Madrid, and former Madrid councilor Juan José Güemes were lifted, in accordance with the Provincial Court's guidance, which deemed those charges unfounded. This decision underscores the shifting landscape of the investigation, as it continues to evolve based on judicial review and procedural clarifications.
