Judge Denies Passport Revocation for Begoña Gómez as Testimony Date Set

The investigation surrounding Begoña Gómez, the wife of Spain's Prime Minister, has seen a significant development as the presiding judge has rejected the request to revoke her passport. This decision comes amidst public accusations and allegations concerning her involvement in two new crimes linked to the procurement of software tied to her role at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM).

The judge has scheduled a hearing for December 18, where Gómez is expected to testify as a suspect regarding these allegations. This was a shift from the original date of November 18, which was intended for her to be informed about the expansion of the investigation. The postponement was prompted by a request from Gómez, who cited her invitation to attend the G20 summit in Brazil.

In response to the public accusations demanding her passport be revoked, the judge deemed this measure unnecessary and disproportionate. In the legal ruling, the magistrate expressed skepticism that Gómez would linger in another country for an extended period, thus making the precautionary measure impractical.

This ruling marks a crucial point in the ongoing investigation into Gómez’ alleged misconduct, as the public and media closely monitor the developments of this case leading up to her December hearing.
