Junts Pushes for Confidence Vote Against Sánchez as Political Tensions Rise

In significant political developments this Friday, discussions unfolded not only in Santander but also in Switzerland, where key figures from Junts met with representatives from PSOE. Jordi Turull, the Secretary General of Junts, along with Miriam Nogueras, the party's leader in Congress, engaged in talks with their PSOE counterparts. This meeting followed recent calls from Carles Puigdemont, the former president of the Generalitat and leader of Junts, urging the current President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to submit to a vote of confidence in Congress.

The independence party has taken formal steps by presenting a Non-Legislative Proposition in the Lower House, which requests Sánchez to initiate the aforementioned vote of confidence. The Congress's Board is scheduled to make a decision next Tuesday regarding whether to process this initiative.

It is important to note, however, that the initiation of a confidence vote in the Congress of Deputies is at the discretion of the President of the Government. According to the Constitution, the President may present a vote of confidence on his program or a declaration of general policy after deliberation with the Council of Ministers. A vote of confidence is considered granted if a simple majority of deputies vote in favor, as stipulated in Article 112 of the Constitution.

This ongoing political maneuvering underscores the rising tensions in Spain's political landscape, particularly as Junts seeks to challenge the Sánchez administration. The outcome of the Congress's Board decision and any potential response from Sánchez will be closely watched in the coming days.
