Lawyer Assures Consensual Relations in Rafa Mir's Alleged Assault Case
Lawyer Jaime Campaner, representing footballer Rafa Mir, stated on Wednesday that the sexual relations between Mir and the woman who has accused him of double sexual assault were consensual. This declaration comes shortly after Mir's arrest following the serious allegations made by a 21-year-old woman. Campaner arrived early at the courts in Lliria, Valencia, where Mir is expected to be presented to a judge soon.
The lawyer informed the media that he has not yet been able to speak with Mir regarding the incident, nor has he reviewed the case file, leading him to refrain from commenting on the specifics of this case. The allegations emerged after a night of events that unfolded from Saturday to Sunday after a match between Valencia and Villarreal.
According to reports, both complainants—two young women aged 21 and 25—asserted that they were assaulted following a meeting at a nightclub, leading to a visit to Mir's residence in Torre En Conill urbanization in Bétera, Valencia. The situation escalated when local police were notified by a neighbor who overheard screams coming from the footballer's home, prompting a medical response for the women at a local hospital.
Mir, a 27-year-old striker from Murcia, has faced scrutiny since the allegations surfaced. He was arrested by the Civil Guard on Monday, and as a consequence, he did not partake in Valencia's training session on Tuesday. The player is currently in custody at a facility in the Patraix neighborhood while events continue to unfold.
In a statement, Valencia confirmed the arrest of Mir but indicated it was not privy to the details surrounding the case, expressing willingness to cooperate with the judicial process. Mir, who started his career at Valencia, transitioned to Wolverhampton in 2018 and solidified his position by signing with Sevilla in 2021. His current contract with Sevilla runs until June 2026, and he was loaned to Valencia for the current season.
The case remains under investigation, and with both legal teams gearing up for what may be a protracted legal battle, public interest is set to intensify as details emerge.
