Linda Yaccarino Steps Down as Head of Elon Musk's Platform X After Nearly Two Years
Linda Yaccarino, the head of Elon Musk's online platform X, announced her departure after nearly two years in the role. In a brief post, she expressed gratitude for what she called the 'opportunity of a lifetime' but did not elaborate on her reasons for stepping down.
Yaccarino's tenure has been marked by her public defense of Musk's controversial decisions, including the integration of X into Musk's AI company, xAI. Since Musk purchased Twitter for approximately $45 billion in October 2022, he initially assumed leadership himself before appointing Yaccarino in June 2023. Prior to joining X, Yaccarino had a significant background in managing the advertising business for NBCUniversal.
Questions surrounding Yaccarino’s future intensified earlier this year when Musk transitioned X from an independent platform into the xAI umbrella, raising speculation about her role moving forward. This change comes amid an increasingly tumultuous environment for both X and xAI, especially in light of criticism regarding the chatbot Grok, which has recently made headlines for anti-Semitic remarks.
As Yaccarino bids farewell, the future of X under Musk’s leadership remains uncertain, particularly in addressing the critical backlash it faces regarding content moderation and platform governance.
