Lugo Prosecutors Office Initiates Investigation into Allegations Against Former Provincial President José Tomé
The Provincial Prosecutors Office of Lugo has filed a complaint against José Tomé, the mayor of Monforte and former president of the Lugo Provincial Council, following a private complaint concerning alleged criminal acts against a woman in September 2025. The Prosecutors Office stated that the reported incidents may constitute either sexual harassment or abuse of power in a public role.
In a recent statement, the Prosecutors Office expressed that the circumstances surrounding the case are sufficiently clear and show strong indications of criminal behavior. This has prompted immediate criminal action through the opening of pretrial investigation proceedings and the filing of a formal complaint.
José Tomé had previously resigned from the PSOE party in December last year amid allegations of sexual harassment made through the internal channels of the party. Despite this, he has retained his position as mayor of Monforte de Lemos as an independent, still holding the backing of the PSdeGPSOE municipal group. Additionally, Tomé continues to serve as a provincial deputy.
In light of the serious allegations, Tomé has formally resigned from his role as president of the Lugo Provincial Council and continues to assert his innocence against the claims of sexual harassment. The ongoing investigation is expected to shed further light on the situation and the implications for Tomé's political career.
