Lydia del Canto Appointed New Secretary of State for Communication Amid Health Concerns
Lydia del Canto has been appointed as the new Secretary of State for Communication, taking over from Ion Antolín, who held the position for a brief two weeks. This decision was confirmed on Monday by El HuffPost, citing government sources. Del Canto's appointment came during the final Council of Ministers meeting of the year.
Ion Antolín's abrupt resignation was attributed to health issues. He announced through his social media channels that he plans to return to his role as the director of communication for the PSOE at a later date. In a reflective post on his BlueSky account, Antolín shared, "A good fellow companion of hardships told me these days the body keeps score. Mine has said to stop, and I can only listen to it. I will return to the communication of the PSOE in due time with renewed strength; I have nothing that rest and a bit of disconnection can’t cure." He concluded with a light-hearted remark about counting the days until his return.
Lydia del Canto, born in 1985, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She previously served as the director of the LevanteEMV newspaper and was responsible for communications for former Valencian Generalitat President Ximo Puig. Most recently, she was part of Diana Morants' team at the Ministry of Science and Universities. Del Canto's extensive background in journalism and communications positions her well as she takes on the challenges of this key government role.
As the new Secretary of State for Communication, del Canto will undoubtedly play a crucial part in the government's messaging and public relations strategies. Her previous roles suggest she is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of communication in a rapidly evolving political landscape.
