Madrid Mayor Praises Temporary Suspension of Bernabéu Concerts for Neighborhood Wellbeing

Madrid's Mayor José Luis Martínez Almeida celebrated the decision to temporarily suspend concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, praising Real Madrid's prudent and reasonable action. In an interview with Antena 3, Almeida expressed gratitude to Real Madrid for making what he termed a complicated yet necessary decision. The announcement followed complaints regarding noise from residents in the vicinity of the celebrated football venue.

Real Madrid confirmed that it would provisionally reschedule its concert agenda until improvements are made to the sound production and emission systems, ensuring that musical events do not disturb the local neighborhood. Almeida reiterated his consistent calls for the club to take measures to alleviate the discomfort faced by neighbors, adding that the club demonstrated a willingness to collaborate from the start.

The suspension of concerts is set to last at least until March 2025, impacting performances by artists like Aitana, Lola Índigo, and Dellafuente. Almeida noted that, importantly, the decision might not have been expedited without the recent noise measurements conducted by City Hall. He emphasized the need to prioritize the wellbeing of residents.

Responding to criticism from PSOE spokesperson Reyes Maroto, Almeida highlighted that the socialist party had failed to address the neighbors’ concerns and accused her of seeking publicity rather than genuine solutions.

Moreover, the Mayor mentioned ongoing infrastructure improvements in the area around the stadium, including the construction of two parking lots and a tunnel aimed at easing traffic congestion. According to Almeida, these developments are expected to enhance overall mobility in the neighborhood while minimizing circulation issues.

Despite the temporary suspension, local residents continue to advocate for hosting only sporting events at the Bernabéu, asserting their commitment to seeing this through. City Hall views Real Madrid's decision to postpone concerts as a fitting response to community concerns, signaling a clear shift in the approach to managing noise and neighborhood relations.
