Madrid's Provincial Prosecutor Denies Email Leak Allegations in High-Profile Tax Fraud Case
Pilar Rodríguez, the provincial prosecutor of Madrid, appeared before the Supreme Court on Thursday to deny allegations that she leaked an email from the lawyer of Alberto González Amador, the boyfriend of Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The email in question contained admissions of two tax offenses while Amador sought a potential deal.
Rodríguez faced questioning from magistrate Ángel Hurtado as a defendant under accusations of revealing secrets related to the ongoing tax fraud investigation involving Amador. Notably, unlike the Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, who has remained tight-lipped in court, Rodríguez chose to respond to her legal team during the proceedings. However, she refrained from addressing the allegations directly, mirroring the strategy adopted by her superior on the previous day.
Legal sources, as reported by EFE, noted that Rodríguez's reluctance to answer questions during the interrogation is primarily due to unresolved matters regarding the invalidation of the search of her office, which is pivotal to the case. Rodríguez believes that participating in the interrogation could lend credence to the investigation, reminiscent of the stance taken by García Ortiz the day before.
The tension surrounding this high-profile case highlights the scrutiny faced by public officials and the integrity of judicial processes in Spain. As the investigation continues, observers remain keenly interested in its implications for both Rodríguez and Amador.
