María Chivite Defends Party Honor Amid Resignation of Senior Official
The president of the Foral Community of Navarre and leader of the local socialist party, María Chivite, publicly defended the integrity of her party on Thursday following the resignation of her deputy, Ramón Alzórriz. Alzórriz stepped down after it was revealed that he had concealed his partner's employment at Servinabar, a company that has received contracts totaling 86 million euros from the Navarre government.
In a statement at the Navarre parliament, Chivite emphasized her commitment to maintaining the values of accountability within her party, declaring, "In the case of Ramón, my principle of expelling anyone stained by suspicion is upheld. I said let anyone fall, and I am fulfilling that." Chivite mentioned that Alzórriz informed her of the undisclosed information only recently and stressed that he must take responsibility for his mistake.
While acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, Chivite noted that Alzórriz has not committed any crime, clarifying, "He did not disclose something that was relevant."
Chivite maintains that there is no justification for her own resignation, asserting that no reports have indicated any illegality associated with the contracts awarded in Navarre. "There is not a single report that points to an illegality committed in a contract in Navarre," she stated.
Looking to the future, Chivite announced that the PSN (Partido Socialista de Navarra) would convene for a new Executive meeting on Friday to select a replacement for Alzórriz as the party's spokesperson. This decision underlines her commitment to ensure that the party remains focused and continues to uphold its standards in governance.
