Massive Fire Devastates Municipal Bus Garages in Burgos, Prompting Emergency Response
In the early hours of this morning, a serious fire broke out at 2:30 AM, engulfing the garages of Burgos' municipal urban bus service located on Poza Road. Fortunately, there have been no reported personal injuries, although one worker, who was present at the time, has been transferred to the University Hospital of Burgos with minor injuries due to smoke inhalation. The City Council confirmed that six individuals, including a driver who heroically saved several buses from the flames, were on site during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. However, the impact has been substantial, with significant economic damages reported. The fire affected a large portion of the facilities, damaging 39 vehicles and completely collapsing the garage roof. As a result, the city's Mobility and Transport Service has had to operate with minimal services beginning at 5:30 AM, leading to the suspension of several bus lines, including lines 7, 9, 10, 15, 20, and 23.
Burgos Mayor Cristina Ayala, who had planned to visit the municipal facilities earlier, quickly arrived at the scene alongside council members from the governing team to assess the damage caused by the unexpected blaze. The situation has left municipal staff bewildered, and the mayor has called for an urgent meeting with spokespersons from various municipal groups to discuss the next steps.
At 9:30 AM, Mayor Ayala is expected to hold a press conference at City Hall to provide further information regarding the incident and its implications for the city’s transport services. The community is left awaiting answers and a plan for recovery as investigations into the cause of the fire begin.
