May Bridge Weather Forecast: Expect Showers and Temperature Changes

Another significant date is at risk as the May bridge approaches, with potential meteorological instability similar to what was experienced during Holy Week. The State Agency of Meteorology (AEMET) has predicted that cloud cover will start to increase this Tuesday due to a low-pressure area moving eastward from the west of the Iberian Peninsula. Throughout the day, high cloud cover will extend from west to east, accompanied by developing clouds in the afternoon.

On the Mediterranean coasts, a flow of humid air is expected to bring low cloud cover and some light rain. Meanwhile, in the Canary Islands, cloud cover is likely to impact the northern regions of the mountainous islands, where occasional light to moderate rain can be expected. The remaining islands will experience some cloudy intervals, but rain is unlikely.

Temperature changes are also on the horizon. A decrease in maximum temperatures is anticipated along the Levant and southeastern coasts, as well as in the Canary Islands. However, temperatures will rise in other areas of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Minimum temperatures are expected to increase in the northern half, especially along Cantabrian coasts, with no significant changes anticipated in the southern regions or the archipelagos, except in the higher areas of Tenerife, where a moderate decrease is expected. Frosts will likely remain limited to the high areas of the Pyrenees, with a possibility of occurrence in the central peaks of Tenerife, as per AEMET's indications.

For the upcoming bridge holiday starting Thursday, May 1, there is a notable change in the weather forecast. Rain showers are anticipated on Wednesday and Thursday in the western part of the peninsula, with expectations that they will generalize across the entire peninsula by Friday. Some of these showers may be strong and accompanied by storms, warns AEMET.

Looking ahead to the weekend, showers are expected to continue on Saturday, particularly in the eastern and northern parts of the peninsula, while on Sunday, showers are likely to occur in the extreme northern regions. Overall, maximum temperatures during this period are predicted to be more typical of June, with some areas possibly exceeding 30ÂșC in the interior of the peninsula. However, a notable drop in temperatures is expected starting Friday, aligning them with the seasonal norms for early May.
