Mayor of Móstoles Denies Resignation Amid Harassment Allegations
Manuel Bautista, the Mayor of Móstoles, has firmly denied any intentions of resigning from his position, vehemently declaring that he is the target of a political witch hunt. This assertion comes in light of a significant legal development where a court has accepted a lawsuit from a former councilor of Bautista’s party, accusing him of sexual and labor harassment.
In a press conference held outside the Town Hall, Bautista stated, "I say it loud and clear: Manuel Bautista is not going to resign. I will continue working for and in Móstoles as I have done from day one." His comments followed the revelation that the presiding magistrate of Court 1 of the Violence Against Women Section of the Móstoles Court has now accepted the lawsuit against him, leading to the former councilor being summoned to testify on June 29.
Bautista expressed frustration at the legal proceedings, saying that he is still awaiting formal notification of the lawsuit to understand what he needs to defend himself against. "The good thing about the case being accepted is that at least I will have the lawsuit to review," he added.
He characterized the situation as an ongoing ‘political hunt’ and emphasized that he has been enduring what he describes as a prolonged persecution. "I have been enduring an absolute persecution for 75 days without having anything, without a single complaint," Bautista stated, referring to the duration since the alleged complaint was filed on February 17.
This statement from Bautista sets the stage for an escalating political drama in Móstoles, as the mayor battles both legal challenges and claims of political motivations behind the allegations against him. The unfolding events raise questions about political accountability and public trust in local governance.
