Milan Judge Approves Compensation in Controversial Revenge Porn Case Involving Political Family

In a notable case that has attracted significant attention, the preliminary hearing judge in Milan, Maria Beatrice Parati, has given the green light to a compensation proposal of 25,000 euros made by Leonardo La Russa, the son of Senate president Ignazio La Russa. This decision follows allegations of revenge porn against La Russa, who stands accused of distributing sexually explicit images of a young woman without her consent. The victim, who initially sought compensation of 50,000 euros, has rejected La Russa's offer, while the judge's acceptance of it effectively extinguishes the associated criminal charges. The events in question took place during the night of May 18-19, when the young woman spent time with La Russa and his friend, Tommaso Gilardoni, at a Milan nightclub and subsequently at La Russa's residence. Upon waking the next day in a disoriented state, the woman alleged that she was raped by La Russa and Gilardoni. However, in October, these serious charges were archived, which means they were dismissed due to lack of evidence or other legal grounds. The case took a further turn with the revelation that La Russa and Gilardoni recorded videos during the night, leading to charges of revenge porn for the unlawful dissemination of sexually explicit content. In a separate court ruling, Gilardoni received a one-year prison sentence, which has been suspended, meaning he will not serve time in jail. He was also ordered to pay 7,000 euros in compensation to the victim, in addition to 4,000 euros for legal expenses.
