This Sunday, Ángel Víctor Torres, the Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Administration, publicly announced that he is battling cancer and will take a temporary leave from his political duties to focus on treatment. The confirmation came during a PSOE congress in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he expressed his commitment to fight the illness and outlined his plans for surgery later this month. "I want to share that I have undergone medical tests that confirmed I have cancer. I will undergo surgery at the end of April," Torres stated, emphasizing that his condition is operable.
Following the announcement, numerous political figures and colleagues across the spectrum expressed their support for Torres. Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez took to social media to share his heartfelt wishes. "Ángel Víctor Torres is one of the brightest and most committed public servants I have known. But above all, he is a generous and affectionate person with immense human qualities. Stay strong, dear friend. We are all with you," he wrote on X.

In his announcement, Torres acknowledged that he has received numerous inquiries about his health in recent days due to rumors circulating about his well-being. He reassured his supporters that he has indeed been proactive in addressing his health concerns. "Things will move forward. I will continue to be active, and we will return stronger," he vowed.
Despite his imminent surgery, Torres expressed gratitude for the support he has received and affirmed his commitment to his responsibilities until medically advised to do otherwise. He concluded by saying, "I will take a break for the surgery and once again return with more strength to my organic and political responsibilities."
