Monaco Grand Prix Extended Until 2031: A New Era for F1 Racing

In an exciting development for motorsport fans worldwide, Formula One has announced a six-year extension for the iconic Monaco Grand Prix, officially securing its place on the racing calendar until at least 2031. The race, synonymous with luxury and high-speed thrills, has been a staple of the Formula One World Championship since its inception in 1950, with the notable exception of the pandemic-affected year of 2020.

Starting from 2026, the Monaco Grand Prix will be held on the first full weekend in June, a strategic date change designed to avoid clashes with the prestigious Indianapolis 500, which typically occurs around the same time. Formula One's chief executive, Stefano Domenicali, expressed his delight at the announcement, emphasizing the uniqueness of Monte Carlo's streets and the significance of the Grand Prix as a dream race for drivers.

"The streets of Monte Carlo are unique and a famous part of Formula One," Domenicali stated. "This agreement signals a new era of partnership and innovation between Formula One and Monaco, and it allows us to create an optimized calendar which reduces pressure on logistics and decreases the environmental impact of our global championship. As we continue our path towards our net-zero goal by 2030, this extension is a significant step forward."

This year’s Monaco Grand Prix showcased the event's popularity, as it attracted hundreds of thousands of spectators and garnered a cumulative audience of over 70 million viewers worldwide. Notably, the race was the third most-watched F1 event in the United States, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc clinching victory from pole position in front of his home crowd.

Michel Boeri, president of the Automobile Club of Monaco, highlighted the Grand Prix's importance, stating, "The Monaco Grand Prix is the most important sporting event here and continues to attract hundreds of thousands of spectators to the principality and millions of global television viewers worldwide."

With this announcement, Formula One not only secures a longstanding tradition but also demonstrates a commitment to evolving the sport in line with modern values, including sustainability and logistical efficiency. The Monaco Grand Prix remains an emblematic event in the racing calendar, and this agreement promises new horizons for both Formula One and the principality.
