NATO Raises Concerns Over China's Enabling Role in Russia's War Against Ukraine

NATO leaders have issued a strong rebuke against China for its enabling role in Russia's war against Ukraine during the recent summit in Washington. The final communique approved by the 32 NATO members highlighted China's deepening ties with Moscow as a cause for concern, emphasizing Beijing's support for Russia's defence sector. The alliance called on China to cease all material and political support to Russia's war effort, specifically mentioning the transfer of dual-use materials. Despite Beijing's denial of direct military aid to Russia, NATO leaders have urged for a halt in support. In response, China expressed displeasure at NATO's growing interest in Asia and demanded that the alliance stay out of the Asia-Pacific region. The NATO statement also accused China of engaging in malicious cyber activities and expanding its nuclear arsenal. This comes as leaders from Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea attended summit talks, reinforcing solidarity against China's actions. Amid these developments, Chinese troops conducted joint military drills in Belarus, drawing attention from neighboring Poland, a NATO member. The drills, the first since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, aim to deepen China's cooperation with Minsk. The situation raises concerns about the use of these drills for disinformation and propaganda purposes. The NATO summit marked a significant step in addressing China's role in enabling Russian aggression, signaling a coordinated effort to hold Beijing accountable.
