New Investigative Report Links PSOE's Ábalos to Unaccounted Expenses in Koldo Case
The Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard is intensifying its investigation into the participants of the Koldo case, with recent developments shedding light on former deputy and secretary of organization for the PSOE, José Luis Ábalos. A new report submitted to the Supreme Court reveals a staggering 95,000 euros in expenses that lack any banking trace, fueling suspicions of undeclared cash income during the period from 2017 to 2021—coinciding with the events under investigation.
Among the unaccounted expenses highlighted in the report are payments made to third parties, fees directed to a foundation associated with Ábalos, and personal expenditure totaling over 20,799 euros. Despite the appearance of balanced income and expenditure on paper, the findings suggest a troubling discrepancy, indicating a higher volume of spending by the former socialist leader.
The report further details payments made by Ábalos to his former partner, Jéssica Rodríguez, as well as payments to two other women and joint account revenues with his ex-wife, not to mention travel expenses incurred by Ábalos and his family entourage.
Additionally, the UCO emphasizes inconsistencies in the documentation provided by the PSOE to the Supreme Court concerning the settlements made to Ábalos. This discrepancy is crucial as it could imply a potential source of undeclared income and suggest that Ábalos may not be an isolated case of pecuniary irregularities within the party.
As the investigation unfolds, all eyes will be on the Supreme Court's next moves, and whether they will push for further scrutiny into the financial dealings of prominent political figures like Ábalos amid increasing calls for transparency and accountability.
