New Revelations Emerge in Boccia-Sangiuliano Political Scandal

Maria Rosaria Boccia, the focal point of a political controversy involving Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, has taken to her Instagram to share new evidence aiming to substantiate her claim of being appointed as a consultant for events at the ministry. The controversy began on August 26 when Boccia expressed gratitude to Sangiuliano for her alleged role as the Minister's Advisor for Major Events. However, this assertion was quickly met with skepticism as various media outlets reported denials from the ministry regarding her appointment.

In response to the public scrutiny, Boccia has been meticulously documenting her contributions to the ministry's operations through daily posts. These include a plethora of evidence ranging from group chat screenshots to email communications linked to the organization of the significant G7 Culture Ministers meeting. Her Instagram posts show her engaging in numerous public events alongside Sangiuliano, asserting her active participation in ministry affairs.

In her latest update, Boccia released a recording of a phone call with ministry official Alessandro Mazza, where her appointment is explicitly mentioned. Additionally, she shared an email from Mazza's colleague, Alessandro Ferrari, dated July 10. In the email, Ferrari states, "Dear Dr. Boccia, Following up on what was briefly discussed earlier I'm attaching my and my colleagues' contacts for any needs related to your appointment as Ministers Advisor FOR MAJOR EVENTS."

Furthermore, Boccia disclosed flight tickets arranged by Narda Frisoni, head of the ministry's secretariat, for her attendance at a public event in Pompeii, where she would join Sangiuliano on July 23. This evidence stands in stark contrast to the initial claims from Sangiuliano and his staff, who denied any official appointment and stated that there was no close connection between Boccia and the minister.

Initially, Sangiuliano acknowledged entertaining the idea of appointing Boccia but claimed that it fell through due to concerns about an unspecified conflict of interest. He emphasized that his office had decided not to proceed with the appointment, which he maintains was never formally enacted. In Boccia's view, however, the minister's decision had indeed been made, but bureaucratic delays have prevented the necessary decree from being issued.

The unfolding events have significant political consequences, prompting attention from higher leadership. On Monday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed the issue during a television appearance, signaling support for Sangiuliano's explanations. The following day, after Boccia's release of additional documents, Meloni called Sangiuliano to an emergency meeting at Palazzo Chigi.

Post-meeting, Sangiuliano issued a statement to the press asserting, "Not a single euro from the ministry, not even for coffee, has been spent on travel and accommodation for Dr. Maria Rosaria Boccia, who in relation to the organization of the G7 Culture has never had access to confidential documents." Following this declaration, Boccia tagged Meloni’s official profile in her latest Instagram stories, likely aiming to highlight the ongoing implications of her allegations.

As this saga continues to unfold, the accusations surrounding Boccia and Sangiuliano spark discussions regarding transparency, accountability, and the intricate dynamics of political appointments in Italy.
