New Will Unveils Family Feud Among Agnelli Heirs
A previously unknown will signed by Gianni Agnelli, the late head of Fiat and a cultural icon in Italy, has surfaced in a Turin court, igniting a legal battle among his heirs. Filed by his daughter, the will dated back to 1998 designates a significant stake in the family's business empire to his son, Edoardo.
The document indicates that 25 percent of the family's control over the Dicembre strongbox, which governs all of the family's corporate holdings, will be inherited by Edoardo. In the will, Agnelli expressed confidence that his other family members, already holding shares in the business, would accept this provision without objection.
However, complications arose as prosecutors in Turin have placed three individuals under investigation related to the ongoing inheritance dispute involving the Agnelli family. The suspects include Gianluca Ferrero, a Turin accountant; Robert Von Groueningen, administrator of the estate of Marella Agnelli, Gianni's widow; and Stellantis Chairman John Elkann, Margherita Agnelli's son, who initially raised concerns leading to the investigation.
Gianni Agnelli, who passed away at the age of 81 on January 24, 2003, is celebrated not only for his role in transforming Fiat into a global automotive giant but also as a symbol of Italian style and industry. His legacy continues to resonate, yet it now faces legal scrutiny amidst family disputes over his posthumous wishes.
