Norwegian Brothers Arrested in Connection with US Embassy Bombing
Three Norwegian brothers have been arrested following a bombing incident at the US embassy in Oslo, which occurred over the weekend, resulting in minor damage but no injuries. The police prosecutor, Christian Hatlo, revealed during a press conference that the brothers, who are Norwegian citizens of Iraqi descent, were apprehended in Oslo while authorities investigate the underlying motivations behind the attack.
Hatlo stated, "We are still working from several hypotheses. One of them is whether this is an order from a government entity. This is quite natural given the target—the US embassy—and the security situation the world is in today." He emphasized that the investigation aims to clarify the specific roles played by the brothers, all of whom are in their 20s and had no prior known affiliation with law enforcement.
According to Hatlo, one of the brothers is believed to have planted the bomb outside the embassy, while the other two are suspected of being complicit in the act. Law enforcement officials stressed that they are not discounting potential connections to criminal networks.
In its recent threat assessment report, the Norwegian security service, PST, indicated that Iran is viewed as one of the primary threats to Norway, with concerns that it could engage proxy actors, including criminal networks, to execute such attacks.
The bombing occurred around 1:00 AM local time at the entrance of the embassy's consular section. The incident prompted American embassies in the Middle East to heighten their security protocols amid fears of retaliation from Tehran following US-Israeli military actions against Iranian interests. In recent times, several embassies have faced attacks as Iran has targeted various industrial and diplomatic facilities.
As investigations continue, authorities are committed to uncovering the full scope of this alarming incident.
