Norwegian Police Expand Charges Against Crown Princess's Son: New Allegations Surface

Norwegian police have recently intensified their investigation into Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Originally charged with a single instance of violence, the allegations against the 27-year-old have now expanded to include several instances of reckless behavior and a violation of a restraining order issued by the police.

Currently, four victims are connected to this troubling case. Høiby was arrested on a recent Friday evening but released the following Saturday afternoon, as confirmed by his lawyer to Norwegian TV 2. The police emphasized the importance of the investigation, which is being treated with high priority.

In early August, Marius Borg Høiby faced serious charges for threats and acts of violence against his then-girlfriend. Notably, the restraining order he violated pertains to an ex-girlfriend who has previously accused him of violent behavior. The police have since revealed that they are looking into two additional potential violence cases linked to Høiby, involving two other former girlfriends, Nora Haukland and Julianne Snekkestad. Each of these incidents involves accusations of abuse within intimate relationships.

In addition to the above charges, Høiby has also been accused of threatening another individual. His defense attorney, Øyvind Bratlien, defended his client, claiming the grounds for Høiby’s arrest were rather weak. He stated, "In my 17 years as a defense attorney, I have not experienced or heard of an arrest on such thin grounds," prior to the announcement of the expanded charges.

Despite his royal lineage, Marius Borg Høiby does not hold official status within the Norwegian royal family, as he is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon.

The Norwegian royal house has not commented on the ongoing situation, which continues to unfold as police charges grow in number and severity. As the investigation progresses, it raises important questions about accountability amongst those in the public eye, particularly in matters involving domestic violence and personal conduct. The legal proceedings ahead will undoubtedly attract significant attention not only due to Høiby’s royal connections but also because of the broader implications for discussions on violence and abuse within intimate relationships.
