Pedro Casares Elected as New Secretary General of PSOE Cantabria
Pedro Casares, the Secretary General of the PSOE of Santander and a national deputy, has emerged victorious in the PSOE of Cantabria primaries, receiving 52.35% of the votes. Casares garnered a total of 1,246 votes, surpassing the incumbent Secretary General Pablo Zuloaga, who received 1,117 votes. On the day of the election, 4,640 party members participated at 40 polling centers, highlighting a robust turnout rate of 86.38%. Notably, the election day proceeded without any reported incidents.
As the newly elected Secretary General, Casares now prepares for the upcoming 15th Regional Congress of the PSOE, set to take place on March 15 and 16. Casares, born in Santander in 1983, takes over from Zuloaga, who has held the General Secretariat of the PSC since July 2017.
In a statement following the announcement of the results, Zuloaga recognized Casares as the winner and emphasized that this leadership change will ultimately strengthen the PSOE. Additionally, Noelia Cobo, the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE and the General Coordinator of the Organizing Committee for the upcoming congress, congratulated Casares and reaffirmed the party's commitment to internal democracy.
