Pedro Sánchez Offers Support to DANA Victims as Spain Faces Natural Disaster

Pedro Sánchez, the President of the Government, has extended his solidarity to the families of the victims of DANA, a severe weather system that has wreaked havoc across parts of Spain, particularly affecting the Community of Valencia and Castilla-La Mancha. As the effects of this natural disaster have led to the reported deaths of 51 individuals and left several more missing, Sánchez emphasized the government's commitment to recovery efforts.

Speaking from Moncloa, where he convened a crisis committee to monitor the disaster's impact, Sánchez reassured the affected families that their well-being is the priority. "We will not leave you alone," he declared, underscoring the government's resolve to collaborate with regional governments and local municipalities to expedite recovery. For those who have lost their homes or other vital possessions, he promised that the full resources of the State, and if needed, additional support from the European Union, will be allocated to help restore their lives.

Together, he stated, "we will rebuild your streets, your squares. The whole of Spain will stand with you." In his address, Sánchez expressed deep gratitude to public servants who are tirelessly working on the ground during these trying times, highlighting that their dedication is a beacon of hope.

He urged citizens to stay vigilant, especially as yellow and orange emergency alerts have been issued by AEMET in various regions. "No one should put their life at risk," he warned. Sánchez reflected on Spain's history of responding to civil protection and health emergencies, recalling how the nation came together during the pandemic, the Filomena storm, and the La Palma volcano eruption. "We will face this challenge as we have faced others—united and resolute," he concluded.

Following his address, Sánchez is set to lead the crisis committee meeting at the Moncloa Complex, which will include various key government officials, each responsible for different aspects of the country’s response and recovery strategy. The collaboration among the ministers is vital as Spain works to mitigate the disaster's impact and support its citizens during this moment of need.
