Political Scrutiny Grows as Dinners and Flood Mismanagement Surface
In an unsettling revelation, acting president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and journalist Maribel Vilaplana were found to have dined at El Ventorro on October 29, 2024, amassing a bill totaling 165 euros. The restaurant's owner confirmed this through documentation now part of a judicial investigation linked to the management of the devastating flood that claimed 229 lives the same day last year.
According to the bill accessed by the news agency EFE, the meal was charged to the PP (People's Party) of the Valencian Community. The dining event took place at table 106, where the duo enjoyed two special arranged menus. However, the bill does not specify the time it was issued.
The owner of El Ventorro recently gave testimony as a witness in front of the judge overseeing the investigation into the flood management crisis. Additionally, the restaurant owner has submitted photographs featuring the reserved dining area, which includes an oval table surrounded by five chairs, illuminated by the room's two large windows and a small low auxiliary cabinet. A floor plan of the area has also been provided, revealing the dimensions of the room to be 443 meters long by 283 meters wide.
In light of these events, Compromís leader, Joan Baldoví, has expressed concerns regarding the unclear connections between Mazón and Feijóo, suggesting there may be undisclosed dealings that warrant further investigation. Speaking to El HuffPost on the first anniversary of the tragic flood, Baldoví reminisced about how the calamity impacted him and the community's struggle to recover, emphasizing the political implications of last year’s events.
The anniversary is not only a stark reminder of the lives lost but also of the ongoing investigation into how the crisis was managed. Discussions in Valencian political circles are now poised to reflect on accountability and leadership perspectives as the community grapples with the aftermath of such a tragic event.
