Polls Predict Devastating Defeat for British Conservatives in Upcoming Parliamentary Election

According to three new polls, the British Conservatives led by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak are facing a devastating defeat in the parliamentary election on July 4th. Surveys released on Saturday evening indicate that the Labour Party led by Keir Starmer is expected to win the vote decisively. The Sunday Telegraph published a study by the opinion research institute Savanta which shows Labour at 46 percent and the Tories at 21 percent. Polls in the Sunday Times, Survation, and the Observer Opinium suggest that the current opposition may reach 40 percent. With the First Past The Post electoral system in the UK, the Conservatives are at risk of facing an even more significant defeat in terms of seat distribution than the percentages suggest. Research by the Survation Institute indicates that the current ruling party could end up with only 72 of the 650 seats in the House of Commons – the lowest number in its nearly 200-year history. Chris Hopkins, the Research Director for Politics at Survation, commented, 'Our research suggests that this vote could mean nothing less than electoral extinction for the Conservative Party.' The polls also raise the prospect of more snap elections and provide insight into Labour's plan for Britain.
