Pope Francis' Funeral to Embrace Migrants and Refugees
Migrants and refugees will share space with world leaders at the funeral of Pope Francis, set to take place at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome this Saturday, as confirmed by the migrant rescue NGO Mediterranea. The organization noted that they have met with the late pontiff on several occasions and have received confirmation of their participation from the Prefecture of the Papal Household.
The delegation attending the funeral will consist of rescuers as well as migrants and refugees who have endured torture and managed to escape from concentration camps in Libya, highlighting the Pope's long-standing advocacy for the rights and dignity of displaced individuals.
As Pope Francis is moved from St. Peter's Basilica, where over 50,000 mourners have paid their respects as he lies in state, he will be transported to the Marian basilica he cherished for a simple funeral attended by dignitaries and global leaders on Saturday. The event will symbolize the compassion the Pope showed during his papacy, particularly towards the most vulnerable members of society.
