Popular Party Approves Initial Aid Package Amid Calls for More Support
The Popular Party (PP) has announced its intention to vote in favor of the Royal Decree Law that was recently approved by the Government, which includes an initial aid package amounting to 106 billion euros for those affected by DANA. However, the party considers this amount insufficient and is calling for additional support through royal decrees.
At a press conference held on Wednesday, PP General Secretary Cuca Gamarra emphasized the urgency of delivering assistance, stressing that aid should not be contingent upon the budget process as it is 'neither necessary nor can the aid wait for that processing.'
Gamarra highlighted the need for swift action, advocating for measures that include royal decrees, extraordinary credits, and expansions of existing credit facilities to ensure prompt relief for citizens affected by the disaster.
The leader noted that the support of Alberto Núñez Feijóo's party is assured for initiatives aimed at repairing the damages caused by DANA, making it clear that their endorsement is not meant to bolster the comfort or wellbeing of the current Government but rather to prioritize the needs of those impacted by the crisis.
