Positive Outcome for Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof: Six More Locations Saved from Closure
After the creditors meeting of Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof last week, insolvency administrator Stefan Denkhaus hinted at possible changes to the closure list. Following final negotiations with landlords, it has been decided to continue operating the location in Würzburg. Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger of the Free Voters, also played a role in these negotiations. The property in Würzburg's city center now has a new owner, contributing to the decision to keep it open. Terminations for employees at these locations are expected to be withdrawn. Additionally, branches in Berlin-Spandau, Mainz, Mannheim, Oldenburg, and the store on Köln's Breite Straße will also remain operational. The insolvency administrator expressed satisfaction with the economically viable solutions reached for these six branches, based on offers from the landlords. This means that 82 out of the previous 92 Galeria stores will now remain open, surpassing the initial plan to operate only 76 locations under the restructuring. This outcome will preserve around 500 more jobs.
