PP Senator José Manuel Baltar Blanco Faces Trial for Alleged Speeding Violation
The Spanish Supreme Court is set to conduct a trial on January 13 against PP senator José Manuel Baltar Blanco for an alleged breach of road safety laws. The senator is accused of driving at an alarming speed of 215 kilometers per hour in an area restricted to 120 kilometers per hour on the A52 highway towards Benavente, Zamora.
The Criminal Chamber has issued a significant order, recognizing the evidence brought forward by the prosecution as relevant. This evidence supports the charge against Baltar Blanco for a crime against road safety, specifically for exceeding the legal speed limit by more than eighty kilometers per hour.
During his testimony before the magistrate, Baltar Blanco, who previously served as the president of the Diputación de Ourense, denied any wrongdoing. He insisted that he never exceeded the threshold of 200 kilometers per hour, which he claims is necessary for the action to be classified as a criminal offense.
As the trial date draws nearer, it remains to be seen how the court will interpret the evidence and the implications of Baltar Blanco's admission in light of the law. The case has stirred considerable interest in Spain, highlighting issues related to traffic safety and accountability among public officials.
Members of the public are encouraged to engage with this unfolding story and share their opinions on the matter.
