Princess of Wales Bows Out of Royal Ascot for Health Reasons

The Princess of Wales did not attend the Royal Ascot horse racing event this Wednesday as planned. Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton is seeking a balance between her public commitments and her recovery from cancer. The 43-year-old princess is gradually returning to official duties after revealing in January that her illness, which she disclosed in March 2024, is in remission, according to sources close to the royal institution who spoke with the BBC.

Sources also disclosed that the Duchess of Cambridge feels disappointed about missing out on the prestigious social and sporting event, where she was listed as a guest until the last moment. Kate was set to appear in the traditional carriage procession alongside King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and her husband, Prince William, who is one of those responsible for presenting awards at the races.

Last Monday, the princess was seen smiling and relaxed at Windsor Castle near London during the Garter Ceremony, where she accompanied other members of the royal family. Furthermore, she participated with William and their three children in the Trooping the Colour military parade held in London to mark the official birthday of the king last Saturday.

Founded in 1711, Royal Ascot takes place from June 17 to 21 at the Ascot Racecourse, approximately 50 kilometers west of London. It is one of the most emblematic social commitments of the British royal family, blending tradition, fashion, and sport.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom celebrates Trooping the Colour once again, while remembering the victims of the Air India tragedy, marking a somber moment amid the festivities.

Every year, the United Kingdom celebrates the official birthday of Charles III around this time of year.
