PSOE Announces Interim Leadership and Expulsion of José Luis Ábalos

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) has revealed the temporary leadership structure for its Secretariat of Organization following the resignation of former leader Santos Cerdán. Cerdán stepped down last Thursday in light of a critical report from the Civil Guard's UCO, which implicated him in facilitating kickbacks linked to a public contract corruption scandal involving former Minister José Luis Ábalos and Koldo García.

As the party moves forward, an interim team has been appointed to oversee the Secretariat until the next Federal Committee meeting scheduled for July 5 in Seville. This committee will address crucial issues, presenting control and regeneration measures to the party.

The new interim leadership comprises four individuals: Cristina Narbona, who serves as the president of the Federal Executive Commission; Ana María Fuentes, manager of the PSOE; Montse Mínguez García, Secretary of Labor, Social Economy, and Self-Employment; and Borja Cabezón, Secretary of Democratic Action and Transparency. This diverse team is expected to guide the party through this transitional period.

In addition to establishing new leadership, the Federal Executive Committee has officially expelled José Luis Ábalos from the party. This expulsion follows the conclusion of a sanctioning file that has been under review for fifteen months due to his involvement in the Koldo case.

The PSOE has also announced the integration of the Avanza Foundation into its operations, possibly indicating a shift towards enhancing party transparency and accountability during this turbulent time. The actions taken today reflect a broader ambition within the PSOE to renew itself and regain public trust amid ongoing allegations of corruption. The upcoming Federal Committee will be pivotal in determining the party's future direction.
